What you get

Each US Letter page holds up to eight puzzles. Every puzzle has a number, your clue, a blank for each letter (spaces and apostrophes are shown), an empty frame to draw the hangman or snowman in, a row of circles to count misses, and the alphabet to cross off. The PDF puts the answer keys after the worksheets, so you can print the sheets for students and keep the keys.

Fewer puzzles per page means bigger blanks, which helps younger writers. The snowman version replaces the gallows with a snowman that students cross out piece by piece.

Every word list on the site has its own printable with an answer key, and a button to draw a new sheet from the same list. A few to start with:

Tips for classroom printing

• Pair work: print one sheet per pair. One student reads the answer key quietly and says "yes" or "no" to each letter; the other guesses and draws. Swap after four puzzles.
• Spelling test review: put this week's words in, one per puzzle, with the clue "spelling list". Students who finish early can write each answer in a sentence on the back.
• Settle the misses before you start: 10 for younger students, 6 for older ones. The circles at the bottom of each puzzle match the number you choose.
• Black and white is fine: the sheets are designed to read clearly on a school photocopier. Only the number tiles use color.
