Easter Hangman Words
Easter hangman words that mix spring and egg-hunt vocabulary with the traditional religious terms, in a free list to play online or print.
Read the word list
Easter is both a spring celebration and a religious holiday, and families and classrooms observe it in different ways. This list holds both vocabularies side by side and states them plainly: eggs, baskets and blossoms in one group, with words like sunrise, resurrection and hymn in another. A teacher can use the whole list or pick the part that suits the room.
The easy end is full of short, friendly words: egg, lamb, chick and hunt. The harder end rewards a different kind of guessing. Hyacinth packs the rare letters y, h and c into a single word, and crocus has only two vowels in six letters. Longer words like jellybean and cottontail are useful because players can often spot the two halves once a few letters appear, which keeps the round moving.
66 entries. Our solver needed 3.5 wrong guesses on average: 16 easy, 26 medium and 24 hard. The toughest is holy (10 misses), the quickest chocolate (0).

Words worth a closer look
- hyacinthY, h and c do most of the work here, and the letter y sits in the middle of the word rather than the end. A strong pick for players who have started to enjoy a challenge.
- crocusOne of the first flowers to bloom in many gardens in early spring. It has only two vowels, o and u, in six letters, so it takes more guesses than its length suggests.
- easterUsually traced to Eosturmonath, an Old English month name that the monk Bede discussed in the 700s. The spelling gives a good opening for a lesson on how holiday names change over time.
- lambThe b is silent, the same as in comb, thumb and climb. Players forget a silent letter exists, so a four-letter word can take longer than expected.
- jellybeanAnother compound word: with je, ll and ea in place, most players see jelly and bean quickly. The double l and the y are the late guesses.
- daffodilA spring bulb with a double f. A single f is the usual spelling slip, so it is worth a look at the printed answer key.
- resurrectionLong, with a double r and an ending (tion) that players tend to fill in once they see the t. A good pick for older students who know the religious story.
- cottontailA compound of cotton and tail, with a double t in the middle. Because t appears three times, it is a quick word if players guess t early.
Using this list in class
Easter falls in spring, so this list works well in the weeks before the break in March or April. Younger grades can use the egg-and-basket words as a themed warm-up, while upper elementary students can try hyacinth, crocus and resurrection on printed sheets. Teachers in schools where the religious vocabulary is not appropriate can simply skip those words, since the rest of the list stands alone.
For spelling work, the list has a clean set of double-letter words (daffodil, jellybean, cottontail) and several flower names that get misspelled often. A simple extension is to have students sort the words into spring, food and tradition columns after the round.
